Silver State Fair Housing Council (SSFHC) believes that education and outreach about fair housing rights and responsibilities is an integral component of any fair housing advocacy program. SSFHC offers a variety of educational opportunities to the public and to housing providers.

ABCs of Fair Housing for Real Estate & Property Management Professionals
A three hour training that provides resources and tools to recognize and address potential fair housing issues. Topics include basic fair housing information, families with children, advertising, and fair housing protections for persons with disabilities.

Ensuring Equal Housing Opportunity: Fair Housing Rights for People with Disabilities
A three-hour class that focuses on disability protections under the Fair Housing Act, basic fair housing rights, reasonable modifications, and reasonable accommodations. The class includes outcomes of current fair housing cases and scenarios for discussion.

A three-hour review of fair housing rights and responsibilities, protected groups, covered properties, families, advertising, and disability protection.

Reasonable Accommodations & Reasonable Modifications
Whether someone needs to install a ramp, have a parking space reserved, or have an emotional support animal, this two-hour training by Silver State Fair Housing Council provides valuable information about the right of individuals with disabilities to reasonably modify a property or request that usual policies be waived to allow full use and enjoyment of their housing. Information includes the latest HUD guidance on assessing requests for assistance animals in housing.

Best Practice: Assessing Requests for Reasonable Accommodations to Keep Animals in Housing
Based on HUD’s Assistance Animal Notice FHEO-2020-01, issued in January, 2020, this training provides best practices for housing providers tasked with evaluating and processing reasonable accommodation requests for service and assistance animals. Learn about documentation for non-observable disabilities, internet certifications, “unique” animals, and more. Please note that there are no continuing education credits associated with this training.

Equidad de Vivienda
A two-hour fair housing training conducted in Spanish. The training is designed to provide attendees resources and tools to recognize and address potential fair housing issues. Topics include basic fair housing information, families with children, advertising, and fair housing protections for persons with disabilities.

Fair Housing Act’s Accessibility Guidelines: Design & Construction Requirements Training
A comprehensive overview of the seven design requirements of the Fair Housing Act’s accessibility guidelines. The course is targeted to architects, developers, real estate professionals, attorneys and advocates. Morning classroom instruction is followed by an afternoon on-site demonstration evaluating compliance with the design requirements. SSFHC is a registered provider with the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The course has been accredited by the AIA.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
“Principles of Fair Housing Litigation” is a continuing legal education seminar on Fair Housing for Nevada attorneys, paralegals, and fair housing advocates. The instructor presents on the topics of the Fair Housing Act, basics of the law, case organization, case assessment, litigation and case study. Training is approved for 5.0 credits by the State Bar of Nevada.

Social Service Providers Trainings
Social service and community groups often work individually with clients who may encounter social problems such as inadequate housing, an illness or a disability, and theses organizations help to find resources for people in these situations. The training runs for approximately one to two hours and includes resources and training materials for participants. The training can also be pared down to fit into a time frame that is convenient for you and your organization. This training is free of charge and SSFHC will come to your organization’s office and conduct the training.
